Ohhh hooo…ohh yeaaaa….ooooooooooo, *droolz*, we’ve been waiting for this one. I can barely contain my excitement as I’m updating my Crysis 2 with the official release from Crytek of its DirectX 11 Ultra update!!
Crysis 2 was released what, a few months ago now?? (March 25 2011!!!!!). A lot of pc gamers, myself included, believe…or expect that this should have been released as part of the game in the first place, much like Metro 2033 and Dirt 2! Regardless of that fact, I took the time to download both the DirectX 11 update and the high-res texture pack…naturally.
So what can you expect from this update? DirectX 11 offers tessellation, high dynamic range motion blur, improved water rendering, realistic shadows with variable penumbra, particles motion blur and a few others.
These changes take the already decent shooter and make it look…beautiful, no, wonderful, stunning in fact. The motion blur and particle shadows are amazing, especially when you’re in a destructive sequence, you can’t help but stop and stare. The HDR post processing actually makes moving from darker shaded areas into brighter sunlit areas a sight to behold! The advanced lighting techniques are a joy to behold.
If your rig could handle the original game and your card supports DirectX 11 with at least 768MB of memory, you shouldn’t take too much of a hit on your FPS, rarely dropping under 60.
As expected, you have finished the 10 hour shooter, but with a new and improved look, you’ll get the chance to relive those thrills that erupted as you approach Grand Central Station and blasting your way through the alien hordes and fending off leaping aliens! Have fun.
