Beating the January Blues with Free Blog Exposure

The Christmas lights have been packed away leaving the house looking bare, the indulgence of the holiday has taken its toll on your waistline and it seems as if the pounds you have put on in weight have been taken directly from your bank account, because you are flat broke. Let’s call a spade a spade, January sucks for you, but not necessarily for your blog. The mixture of having little money and more free time as everyone you know is huddled away indoors feeling miserable means you can dedicate January to working on your blog and finding those great free ways of getting extra traffic, starting with these suggestions.

Get to Grips with a Little Coding

If you use a blogging platform such as Blogger or WordPress, the chances are you chose a template the day you set it up and haven’t really ventured much further than that. These platforms tend to be rather accommodating to adaptations and additions via coding, so why not use some of your evenings to read up on the coding you could use to make your blog unique and user-friendly? There are thousands of how-to guides and videos available online for free, so take advantage of these resources and entice traffic with your new-look blog.

Lend your Writing Skills to Another

Guest posting has long been hailed an effective method of driving new traffic to your blog, but people with their own blog can sometimes feel as if they don’t want to waste their time creating content for another when they could be doing something for themself.

It’s time to get past this and realise that guest posting is mutually beneficial. Write your post and offer it out to the masses; check the offers you get for aspects such as page rank and the link they are offering (if it’s no follow you probably want to consider another blog).  Once your post is live, your content can be seen by a fresh audience and if your post is good, they simply won’t be able to help but click the link back to your blog to see what else you have to offer.

Increase your Tweets and Updates

Blogs and social media go hand in hand, so when you are spending time looking at ways to increase traffic, your Twitter and Facebook accounts should really be tended to as well. Once the rejuvenation of your blog has been completed and your guest posts have gone live, it’s time to start tweeting your heart out and let’s face it, you probably have the time to over these long and chilly January nights!

Not only should you be tweeting and updating regularly, it is also important to start hunting for new people and companies to follow as you can increase your chances of boosting your followers and friends whilst also standing to forge good relationships and gain a few industry tips at the same time. Make your search for friends and followers relevant by using buzzwords you would use to describe your own blog; e.g. if your blog showcases recipes, you may wish to do a hash tag search on Twitter for ‘recipes’, ‘vegetarian’, ‘food’, ‘restaurant’ etc.

Emerge from the cocoon of January with a revitalized blog thanks to all that work you have put in to it that hasn’t cost you a single penny.
