Getting Started with the Google Adwords Keyword Tool

Why Use It?

Keyword research is one of the most important aspects of search engine optimization. Keyword research allows you to locate low competition keywords in order to get websites ranked in the search engines. If you are conducting your research through the Google Adwords tool whether or not the keywords you are using have high, medium, or low competition in the search engines. When you use high or medium competition keywords in your webpages you will have to compete with websites that already have authority online. Websites that were established prior to 2002 have a greater chance of achieving a higher PR rank for keywords within your niche no matter how great your content is. If you never use the Google Adwords tool, you do not have to fret. The tool is fairly easy to understand and is in valuable to your ranking.

Getting Started

Go to Google or any other search engine and type “Google Keyword Tool” into the search field. Wait for the search results to come back and then click on the link will take you to the Google Adwords tool. This should be the first link on the search results. Be careful as there are several websites claiming to promote the Google Adwords tool but will try to sell you different keyword researching tools for affiliate marketing.

Adding Phrases for Research

Once the Google Adwords tool has loaded in your web browser click on the “Word or Phrase” field. Your cursor should be flashing to the right of this field. Type in the word or phrase associated with your niche. For instance, if you were niche is weight loss than you would want to type “weight loss” into the search field. Go to the “Match Type” section on the left-hand side of the web browser and either click “Broad,” “Exact” or “Phrase.” these match types will either match your keyword with broad phrases, and exact phrase or a quoted phrase. Choosing “Broad” is the best option to getting a lot of keywords for your niche.

Go to the CAPTCHA field and type in the phrase to prove that you are human. Click on the search option and wait for your keywords to load. Sometimes the keywords take a little bit of time to load depending on the time of day. What’s the keywords have loaded you should see a list of keyword phrases with competition rankings, global monthly searches and the local monthly searches. Click on the “Competition” bar so that the search results list below competition keywords first.

Reviewing Search Volume

Look at the global monthly search results and try to choose a phrase or keyword that has a high search value against this low competition. Keywords with low competition but high global monthly searches are the best to use for your website content. For instance, if we are using weight loss as our keyword phrase a good keyword to use would be “before and after weight loss,” as this has 90,500 global monthly searches and low competition. Now you have done proper keyword research through the Google Adwords Tool.
